MORE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

I'm not sure why, in fact I have no idea, but I have this urgent feeling to be connecting with the old things in my life....like THIS button. It's wood, and it still has the original thread in it, that was in my box of buttons from my gram. It FEELS wonderful, all smooth and perfectly worn from fingertips. I only have one like it, so I am going to keep this one for myself, but plan to make similar versions. I used faceted crystal quartz, faceted labradorite, a baroque freshwater pearl, sterling, and a little swarovski.
The old, and the worn, and the vintage appeal to me a lot, and I have not been able to translate that into my mixed media yet, which is becoming frustrating. You know how you see it in your mind, but it does not turn out that way!!
Well....forward march!!

Hi Sharon
Another beautiful piece. I love the eclectic elements...and how you kept the thread on it..and how you are keeping it for yourself because it's special!

Oh, I love this one and you should keep it - it is special! Love the way you made the focal and the way the crystals contrast the worn button!

I love it so much Sharon. Beautiful idea to mix wood, stones, metal and pearls. It is a sort of zen pendant, with fire (metal), water (pearls), earth (button) and air, with the lightness of the chain.

Don't be frustrated, the most important is to be happy to create...

Oh Sharon, this necklace is so pretty and the thought behind it is so heart warming! I use to make button jewelry at my grandma's all the time when I was a little girl, I think that's why I love using them in my pieces so much:)

I love that you've combined the old and the new. Wearing this piece with it's old worn button from your Gram will be keeping her memories close to your heart! Hugs, Terri xoxo

Sometimes certain pieces give you that warm connected feeling. This is usually the older pieces that have been through so much already before they become that beautiful work of art. Sharon, you'll get there with your mixed media too in time I'm sure. All of your creations are interesting, exciting, and seem to tell a story. I just love them!

Beautiful Sharon! I love the old, the worn, the tire, the rusty...sounds like I am talking about me! LOL! I think there is such a power in using utilitarian objects in your art...you are elevating that useful thing to a higher position! And I am sure that you will find a way to make them part of your mixed media as well. Enjoy the day!
